Current Classes:

Contract and Expand. Wednesdays 8:15am, West Asheville Yoga

Everything in life pulses, and in this 60 minute class we will practice doing the same: tending our bodies to create healthy stress that then facilitates more ease and rest. Fun flow will get your heart moving, intermixed with heart opening pauses to orient to beauty. Sommerville teaches about the functioning of the nervous system throughout class by inviting you to listen to the language of your body. Some experience with yoga is helpful but not essential.

Rooting and Rising. One Sunday per month 5:15pm, West Asheville Yoga

Rooting and Rising is a monthly class designed to help you learn about and tend your nervous system, to feel connected to a community with the same intention of slowing the pace of life in order to live more fully, and to cultivate a more natural rhythm of action and rest, coherent with the natural world. We will focus more on rooting as the leaves fall and we tend our inner fires, and rising in the spring with creative energy to feed our outward expression of vitality. Classes will include a blend of asana practice, mindfulness practice, teachings on the nervous system, and prompts for group sharing/discussion. Are you ready to create a new rhythm in your life?

Check out the West Asheville Yoga website for more details and other amazing classes.

Yoga is more than a physical practice. The word itself means “union” and is considered to be a reference to the union between the individual and the divine. As Aspen Roots Collective offers experiences that deepen connection with the natural world, our bodies themselves could be considered the part of the natural world that is always with us, and the breath as the life-giving action that we can return to as an anchor, yoking us with the larger rhythms of life and divinity in the form of the Earth, universe, god, love, or whatever word most resonates with your understanding of that which connects us.

Sommerville holds a 200 hour yoga teacher certification from the Asheville Yoga Center. Not only does she incoporate yoga sessions into the Aspen Roots retreats, but also various aspects of yoga into her individual counseling. The physical postures (asanas), breath work (pranayama), and meditation can all be resources for nervous system regulation and Somatic Experiencing work.

Yoga workshops and classes are offered in both Asheville, NC and Birmingham, AL along with the Rugged Renewal retreats. Details can be found on the Aspen Roots calendar. Private classes are also available by request. Contact us for more information or to schedule a private or small group class.
